Jaipur: RSRTC's bus stand at Agra Road began operations Tuesday amidst stringent security as the administration anticipates resistance from residents of the adjacent Shanti Colony. Two police camps have been set up on the western and northern periphery of the bus stand.
Speaking to TOI, local MLA Rafeek Khan, who confronted RSRTC officials on Saturday, stated that in 1984 the erstwhile Jaipur municipality relocated residents of Sanjay Bazar to this colony. At that time, the residents had access to two gates on the northern side – the old Ghat Ki Guni Road and the Agra Road, where a tunnel has been constructed.
"At present, there is no ingress or egress possible from Agra Road where the tunnel was constructed in 2013. On the other side, the govt has constructed the TP Nagar underpass, leaving a narrow kaccha raasta. The provisional road through the unused RSRTC land was the sole route for the residents. Now, how would they traverse?" Khan told TOI.
The Adarsh Nagar MLA has dispatched a letter to chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and deputy chief minister Prem Chand Bairwa seeking assistance for the residents. On Wednesday, a delegation of residents would submit representation at the collectorate. They threatened to halt the bus terminal if their concerns remain unaddressed.
"To reach home from Jawahar Nagar circle, we must travel at least five kilometres more through a heavily congested stretch," said Pappu Qureshi, a local resident.
